Bridgewater, NJ Baseball & Softball

Dear Bridgewater Baseball and Softball families,

No one would have imagined that when the COVID stay-at-home social distancing orders first went into effect in March that we would be here in early June without a single pitch being thrown in our baseball and softball seasons.  The current conditions have been challenging on so many levels.  As an organization, Bridgewater Baseball and Softball tried to remain flexible and hopeful that we could salvage some part of the spring rec season.

Governor Murphy recently announced that organized team practices can take place beginning June 22nd.  Although it's good news, the reality is that it pushes us beyond the point where we could successfully run a spring program.

Sadly, we are now forced to officially cancel the spring recreation baseball and softball season for all leagues up to and including Seniors.  The Babe Ruth League has been discussing plans to run a summer season so that program has not been cancelled and will proceed with the hopes that they will offer a summer league.  The same holds true for all travel teams while we wait for further clarification from the Governor's office for an official start date as to when games can begin.

We remain open to the possibility of holding a Summer Ball rec program that would potentially run from July 6th through July 31st.  Attached is a brief, 2-question survey.  Please take a minute to reply to the survey if you have interest in participating in a summer league during the month of July.  Survey results will dictate whether we will offer a summer league.  The survey will be open through this Sunday, June 7th and can be accessed by clicking on the attached link:

BBSI is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization run entirely by volunteers and is self-funded.  The cost of running our baseball and softball operations far exceeds the funds raised from registration fees.  To prepare for the 2020 season, a considerable amount was spent on field maintenance and improvements.  Insurance, utility bills and other fixed costs continue regardless of whether we have a season or not.  BBSI has kept registration fees lower, in some cases considerably lower, in comparison to other towns and leagues.  All of this is manageable assuming we continue baseball and softball operations, host tournaments to generate revenue, and secure funding from sponsors.  For this 2020 spring season, that revenue was lost.  We are hopeful that we can salvage a summer season for our travel teams and Babe Ruth League.

Elimination of the $50 administration fee

We are sympathetic to the fact that many households face considerable challenges during this pandemic, including financial hardship.  With that said, our Board has decided to retroactively rescind any administration fees for those registered in the 2020 spring rec season.  Anyone who previously requested a refund that was assessed the admin fee will receive an additional refund of $50

All registration fees will automatically be credited to the 2021 spring rec season unless you specifically tell us otherwise.  There is a distinct possibility that league registration fees will increase next spring.  For all those who agree to rollover their fees to 2021, you will be locked into the current rates and you will not be subject to any registration fee increases.

If you would like to request a refund, please send an email by June 19th to your respective League Commissioner with the following information:  your name, player's name, player's age and league, address, phone number.  Refund checks will be processed on a weekly basis and you will receive them by mail.  A list of League Commissioners and emails can be found in this page:

Work Bond

Work bond fees are paid once and automatically roll from one year to the next assuming you satisfy your volunteer hours.  When your child leaves the program, you can request that your work bond fee be returned to you.  For this season, all work bond hours are automatically satisfied and the balances will be rolled to next season.  We do not typically refund work bond fees each year unless your child is done playing in the league.

For those that paid their work bond fees for the first time in 2020, we will make an exception and offer a refund of your fees.  Under these circumstances, if you request a work bond refund, follow the same procedure above and notify your league commissioner.

Working Together

Thank you so very much to the many families who have offered to donate some or all of their registration fees back to BBSI as a charitable donation.  For all donations, regardless of dollar amount, we will issue a letter of acknowledgement for tax purposes.

As a 100% volunteer-run organization, we constantly welcome new members.  Under "normal" conditions, our Board meets at 7:30pm on the second Tuesday of each month at the field house at our Prince Rodgers baseball complex.  For anyone who wishes to share thoughts, ideas, suggestions or wishes to volunteer their time to the league, we welcome you to join us.

Lastly, to all those that have shown unwavering support and understanding to our organization during this incredibly challenging time, to all those that volunteer countless hours of their time, and to all those that have generously donated back to our league, we extend our heartfelt thanks.  Hope everyone has a safe, healthy and enjoyable summer.  We look forward to the day where we see you once again on the fields.
